"Julian" closes roads in the Cordillera region

BAGUIO CITY (September 30, 2024) -- Access roads in Apayao province were closed down as of 10:30AM, the 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) of DPWH-Apayao said, as heavy rains pound the province and the rest of the Cordillera region Monday.

Even the Apayao-Ilocos Norte is closed as floodwaters engulfed major inter-provincial road systems, while waters have swollen even along the detour road at the ongoing Annaran Bridge Construction Project at the Madalagudug River at K0661+950 in Butao, Calanasan, Apayao.

Necessary equipment is on standby to fix the detour once the water level subsides, the DPWH-Apayao however assured.

The Apayao-Ilocos Norte Road (Tertiary Road in Calanasan) is also closed due to the high water level along the detour road at the ongoing Tanglagan Bridge Construction Project at Apayao/Tanglagan River in Tanglagan, Calanasan, Apayao.

Also, the Claveria- Calanasan - Kabugao Road (Tertiary Road) was shut down due to soil collapse at Barangay Ferdinand, Calanasan, Apayao.

"Punch through operations are set to recommence today as soon as the weather improves and conditions are safe,” the DPWH-Apayao added.

While the Abra-Kalinga road in Poblacion, Malibcong, Abra weas rendered unpassable

As of 7:30 AM Monday due to soil collapse.

The Abra-Ilocos Norte Road in Nagaparan, Danglas, Abra was also closed due to a landslide.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
