Cagayano electrocuted, 284 families flee homes as “Julian” pounds Cagayan

BAGUIO CITY (September 30, 2024)— One Cagayano died while 284 families were displaced early Morning Monday as heavy downpour with strong winds pounded Cagayan province.

 

At around 6:00 AM Monday, motorcycle rider Benjoe Castrence, 25, from barangay Tangatan, Sta Ana, was hit by a fallen electric cable while heading home from work.

He was declared-dead-on arrival at the Fr. Gerry Felipe Memorial Hospital in Sta. Ana.

 

According to the attending physician, Castrente died due to electrocution.

 

While the Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) reported that as of 6:00 AM of September 30, 2024, some 828 individual belonging to 284 families were evacuated amidst the wrath of Typhoon "Julian".

 

A pre-emptive evacuation was conducted in Sta Praxedes, Gattaran, Calayan, Pamplona, Gonzaga, and Sta Ana as flloodings were reported in these towns.

 

Of the total number of evacuees, 116 families or 357 individuals stayed outside the evacuation centers while 172 families or 482 individuals went to the evacuation areas. 

 

As Monday morning, many areas in Cagayan province were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) number 2 while Sta. Ana towns was placed under TCWS number 3.
