Truck plunges into Benguet ravine; Driver killed, 2 hurt

BAGUIO CITY (November 7, 2024)— A truck driver died on the spot and his two passengers were hurt after the truck dived in a 20 meter-ravine in Upper Cotcot, Bangao, Buguias town in Benguet 4:30PM Tuesday.



Buguias town police named the fatality — Denver Adcapen, 33, from Barangay Guinzadan Bauko, Mountain Province, while his two passengers, who were not named, were hurt but are recovering now.


After the fall, personnel of the Buguias Police, the Buguias Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the town's Rural Health Unit, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Buguias together with community volunteers rushed to the ravine to save the victims.


While the two passengers were immediately brough out from the wreckage and brought to the Lutheran Hospital in Abatan, also in Buguias, rescuers had difficulties in removing the the driver pinned down at the front seat of the truck. 

Probers added that the vehicle’s front landed first before it slid furthere down the ravine.


The truck reportedly suffered a mechanical defect.
