PDEA catches drug dealers in Ilocos Sur, La Union

BAGUIO CITY (March 12, 2025) -- Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) operatives in Ilocos Sur aided by local policemen caught an alleged “resurgent” drug trader in San Esteban town before midnight Tuesday.

PDEA-Region 1 director Joel B. Plaza named Ricky Boy S. Ea, 28, was cornered after he sold

two pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu that weighed more or less two grams and worth P13,600.00 to undercover government agents.

Aside from the shabu, operatives also seized a glass tooter and a fan knife from Ea.

Whatever was with Ea when caught like his mobile phone, sling bag, disposable lighter, a piece of white paper including the buy-bust money were documented and to be included in the non-drug evidence against him, added Plaza.

Ea, Plaza said, earlier surrendered and promised to reform.

Several hours after Ea’s arrest, another “resurgent” drug dealer was caught by

PDEA-La Union operatives and local policemen in Caba town in La Union.

Aside from 10 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu weighing more or less one gram, worth P6,800.00, a homemade shotgun, two live ammunition for caliber 12 gauge shotgun, one cigarette pack, and an opened transparent plastic sachet were seized from Randy R. Obdianela, 57, at around 8:30 AM Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

Both Ea and Obdianela were separately taken to a PDEA provincial jail facility in Ilocos Sur and in La Union for processing before they are formally sued for illegal drug charges.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
