Over P10M weed goes up in smoke in Benguet, Kalinga

BAGUIO CITY (March 13, 2025) – At least P10,140,000.00 worth of marijuana plants were discovered and put ablaze in a series of marijuana eradication operations in Benguet and Kalinga provinces on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

In Benguet, nine marijuana plantation sites with 10,500 fully grown marijuana plants (FGMJP) and 27,000.00 grams of dried marijuana stalks, leaves, and fruiting tops with an overall Standard Drug Price (SDP) of P5,340,000.00 were discovered by the joint operatives of 1st and Benguet Provincial Mobile Force Companies (PMFC), Bakun Municipal Police Station (MPS), Kibungan MPS, Provincial Intelligence Unit and Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit of Benguet Police Provincial Office (PPO), Regional Intelligence Division of PRO CAR, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-CAR in barangay Kayapa, Bakun and barangay Tacadang, Kibungan.

While in Kalinga, three marijuana plantation sites planted with 24,000 FGMJP with an SDP of PhP4,800,000.00 were found by the joint forces of the Tinglayan police, police commandos from the 2nd Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force, and PDEA-Kalinga in barangays Loccong and Butbut Proper, both in Tinglayan.

Cordillera police director Brig. Gen. David K. Peredo said all discovered marijuana plants were documented and burned on-site though taking sufficient samples to the Regional Forensic Unit CA for examination.

 

Peredo added that operatives are conducting follow-up investigations to locate other marijuana plantation sites and apprehend those responsible for cultivation.
