La Union Honors 45 Scholars with Latin Honors, Gets Incentives

In recognition of their academic excellence and to inspire younger scholars, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) honored 45 outstanding graduates under the La Union Educational Assistance and Scholarship Program (LUEASP) in a Recognition Ceremony held at the Provincial Capitol on February 6, 2025.

The event aimed to celebrate the scholars’ perseverance to finish a degree amidst financial challenges. These graduates, who finished with Latin honors, received incentives and certificates of recognition for their hard work and dedication. A total of 40 Cum Laude graduates were awarded Php 10,000 each, while 5 Magna Cum Laude graduates received Php 12,000 each.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, lauded the scholars and emphasized the importance of using their success to inspire others and give back to the province. She also reminded them that their achievements were not just personal victories, but triumphs that reflect the support and hope of the entire La Union community.

"Ang tunay na honor graduate ay hindi lang magaling sa klase, kundi magaling ding tumulong, makiisa, at magbalik ng kabutihan sa iba. Kaya bilang mga iskolar ng La Union, ang challenge ko sa inyo is to give back to our province, in whatever way you can. Kahit maliit na paraan, malaking bagay ‘yan para sa ating mga kaPROBINSYAnihan [constituents],” said Gov. Rafy, challenging the graduates to contribute to La Union’s development in their own unique ways.

The recognition ceremony was also attended by several members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, including Board Member Henry Balbin and Board Member Victor Rivera, represented by Mr. Daryl Rivera, who congratulated the scholars and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence while remaining grounded in service to their kaPROBINSYAnihan.

With the recognition of these honor graduates, the PGLU hopes that more La Union scholars will be inspired to strive for excellence and contribute to the growth and development of their communities and the province.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
