Breast cancer tops list of cancer ailments in Baguio City

BAGUIO CITY (February 10, 2025) -- Breast cancer has topped the list of cancer ailments among Baguio City residents, the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) reported.

 

BGHMC Cancer Center Medical Officer Dr. Janice Bañez citing their log said, breast cancer is first in the list followed by thyroid cancer, cervical cancer , endometrial cancer, colorectal cancer and colon cancer.

 

According to the health department, in the list are 173- breast cancer; 116- Thyroid cancer; 83-cervical; 73 endometrial; 71 colon and 60 colorectal.

 

February is National Cancer Awareness Month and public health officials are ramping up public awareness to assist them battle, if not avoid it. Most of the patients, public health officials though said, are being treated.

 

The Department of Health (DOH) Cordillera is urging the public to seek medical consultations especially when experiencing abnormal feeling and changes in the body like sudden weight loss, unusual fatigue, night fevers, body pains and lumps, changes of skin color, and among others.

 

“Early detection, the DOH-Cordillera said, can save lives.
