Gladys Vergara Champions Inclusive Healthcare and Legacy Projects in Puliwes Barangay Visit

Congressional candidate Gladys Vergara delivered an engaging and heartfelt message during her visit to the residents of Puliwes barangay, emphasizing her commitment to continuing her father’s legacy. She expressed deep concern over the unfinished projects initiated by her father, former Mayor and Congressman Bernie Vergara, which, according to her, had been neglected by his successors. She vowed to revive and complete these projects, ensuring that the community receives the services and infrastructure they were originally promised.

Vergara was joined by Glenn Gaerlan and Eric Kelly, both of whom reinforced her call for meaningful change. Gaerlan, a staunch advocate for culture, arts, and music, underscored the importance of preserving Baguio’s rich heritage while empowering the youth toward a brighter future. Kelly, a rising young leader, offered a fresh perspective on governance, particularly in the areas of sports, youth empowerment, and supporting the less fortunate. His dynamic vision resonated with the crowd, highlighting the need for proactive leadership that directly engages with the community’s needs.

Recognizing the struggles faced by senior citizens and the less fortunate, Vergara made a strong commitment to enhancing the universal healthcare system. She pointed out that under the current system, many individuals are excluded from receiving medical benefits due to rigid qualifications. If elected, she pledged to broaden healthcare coverage, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their financial or social status, has access to essential medical services.

Adding weight to her candidacy, former Councilor Rocky Balisong addressed the audience, urging them to support Vergara in her bid for Congress. He underscored her youth, experience, and dedication to public service, highlighting her tenure as a councilor and as Baguio City’s first vice mayor. He emphasized that Vergara embodies the leadership and vision necessary to bring real progress to the community.

With a firm grasp of both past commitments and future possibilities, Gladys Vergara, alongside Glenn Gaerlan and Eric Kelly, stands as a strong advocate for continuity, inclusivity, and meaningful change—one that prioritizes the welfare of all citizens.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
