The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) recently inaugurated new school facilities around the province, as Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David continues to uphold education as a pillar in her administration.
Gov. Rafy along with PGLU officials and employees led the turnover ceremonies of eight classrooms in the towns of Balaoan and Santol, and a school covered court in the City of San Fernando, on March 27, 2025.
The new school buildings have been officially turned over for use by learners, teachers and other end-users in the said localities. With the project costs at P 24,007,685.22, the construction of the facilities were testament to the PGLU’s commitment to bolster inclusive, quality, and accessible education for all.
“Education remains to be a cornerstone in public service, and may these new school buildings be witnesses of our collective aspirations to foster inclusive education for every Kaprobinsiaan learner,” Gov. Rafy said.
“With the inauguration and blessing of these facilities, we reaffirm our commitment to holistic education and conducive learning environment,” Gov. Ortega-David added.
A total of P19, 135, 634.97 was allocated for the classrooms while P4, 872, 050.25 was allotted for the covered court. The classrooms are set to benefit more than 300 students.
Each classroom can cater 35 to 40 students, Provincial Engineer Ressie Estrella said.
These infrastructure projects include a two-storey building with four classrooms in Bungol National High School in Balaoan; four classrooms of La Union Special School for Culture and Arts (LUSSCA) in Brgy. Manggaan, Santol; and a school covered court with a stage in Brgy. Cadaclan, City of San Fernando.
School administrators and personnel expressed their deep gratitude to PGLU and Gov. Rafy. “We proposed for the resumption of construction of a school building project that has been stalled for quite a time, but PGLU gave us even more with four new classrooms,” LUSSCA Principal Dr. Marissa Antolin exclaimed.
Gov. Rafy underscored that the school heads, faculty, parents, and learners themselves have important roles to play in the upkeep of the facilities.
“Let us work together because by building more school facilities, we also build better future for the young people of La Union,” Gov. Rafy remarked.
