Gladys Vergara Steps Up for Baguio’s Congressional Seat

BAGUIO CITY — With a vision to make the city a model of progress and sustainability, Gladys Vergara humbly offers her candidacy as Congresswoman. Guided by the principles of servant leadership and deeply rooted in the rich cultural heritage of our city, Vergara promise to build a brighter, more inclusive future for every Baguio resident.

According to Vergara, as Congresswoman, her main duty is to create, support, and push for laws that directly address the needs of our people. Some of the laws she want to fulfill are: Improve public services; Enhance infrastructure; Promote environmental sustainability; and Boost economic growth.

She said, together, we can shape Baguio into a model of a Smart, Sustainable, and Equitably Developed Urban City—one that preserves its cultural heritage, protects its environment, and empowers its people.

These values will ensure that Baguio remains dynamic, livable, and inclusive for future generations.

According to Vergara, the essence of her leadership is service—selfless and sincere. “‘Glad to Serve You’ is more than just a slogan; it reflects my lifelong commitment to putting the needs of our community above all else. With humility, empathy, and firm dedication, I will strive to improve the well-being of every individual.”

She said she draws strength and inspiration from the exceptional public service of her father, former Congressman Bernardo Vergara, whose proactive and action-driven leadership earned the trust and respect of countless Baguio residents.

“As I begin this journey, I seek your support and strength to lead with wisdom and fairness, always guided by the greater good. Together, let us honor Baguio’s past, embrace change, and create a future we can all be proud of.”

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
