Another week that was is fleeting on flight, sadly in a swift saturation. Isn’t a wonder that despite the maladies of a yet permutating passing week, we remain hopeful? Are we just an insensitive race of nonchalance?
Come to think of it, isn’t the Spectacle of an institution reverently regarded like the Philippine Senate well worth some commanding public attention? Shouldn’t we all be raising assertive voices to demand something of greater worth than what we had to go through?
It is time to make our voices well heard and demand - not request or enjoin - a public spectacle than this.
Consider: two weeks have gone by and the promised “back to business” signifies that the business at hand is nothing but transactional.
Consider: the windfall of goodness remains too lofty and therefore beyond reach, perhaps wrongly rationalized as simply set aside for now, good for the taking when enough spoils have satiated even the most grievous insatiable.
Consider: instead of rolling up work-sleeves, if only to placate restive minds and calm down tempers so brazenly allowed, our honorable ladies and gents submit to petty bickering over spoils yet shared.
The spectacle doesn’t end there. Remember the unfolding drama over a simple query raised, “why is there a sense of nothing new, nothing presented, despite time being frittered away?” How did a revered institution whose voices of calming reason once heard throughout the hall made to plummet in high regard this fast?
Was it simply because the abundance of spoils remains a top-notch order of the day, higher in calling to the crying call for action on the burning concerns gripping the public sentiment?
Time indeed has a message of irony to those entrusted to steer the ship of state to untroubled waters. Time tells us it moves on regardless of anything or anyone . Time implores us it shall fleet by, ordained by no one, least of all even by the most noblest called to task.
Yes, it’s all about time. And as the clock keeps on ticking by, time shall leave behind those who have deaf ears and impure hearts to even pay heed. Make no mistake about it: if time is disrespected by the unheeding, it shall get past us, leaving only the pitiful heap of lessons that could have been irretrievably imparted.
Let’s not allow time to do just that. Otherwise, time shall simply get us by. Without remorse. Without regrets.
