Protection, enhancement of landscapes mark Ilocos Norte’s 207th Anniversary

BAGUIO CITY (February 3, 2025) -- The Ilocos Norte provincial government marked the province’s 207th Foundation Anniversary by a province-wide environmental initiative launch Sunday at Brgy. Saud, Pagudpud, highlighting its continuing dedication to sustainability and ecological preservation.

 

In a historic first, the event mobilized component local government units, government agencies, community organizations, and volunteers in a unified endeavor to protect and enhance the northernmost province’s natural landscapes.

 

Activities included clean-up drives targeting coastal areas, public spaces, and tourist spots, along with tree planting.

 

A total of 275 saplings were planted across Adams, Burgos, Badoc, and Pagudpud, comprising 100 fire trees, 125 talisay, and 50 coconut trees.

 

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Vice Governor Cecilia Marcos led the initiative, highlighting the critical role of community-driven efforts in fostering a greener and more resilient Ilocos Norte.

 

Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos emphasizing a collective responsibility in environmental stewardship said, "as we celebrate the 207th Foundation Anniversary of our beloved province, we are reminded of the resilience and unity that have shaped our hope for the province over the years. Today is not just a time for reflection but also a moment to reaffirm our commitment to building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Ilocos Norte for future generations."

 

She further said, "Alam niyo po, as ina ti probinsia, it has always been my commitment to prioritize preservation and protection of our environment for it is the foundation of our well-being and prosperity."

 

"So, we work together and we are taking meaningful steps to a healthier environment and brighter future for all Ilokanos. Every small effort counts."

 

The 207th Foundation Anniversary of Ilocos Norte reflects the province's ongoing progress, aligning development with environmental stewardship and reaffirming its dedication to a sustainable and prosperous future.

 

Gov. Marcos Manotoc and Vice Gov. Marcos also vowed with their commitment in advancing environmental initiatives that promote the well-being and prosperity of Ilokanos, inspiring collective action toward a sustainable and thriving future for Ilocos Norte.
