Power coop rewards on-the-dot payors

BAGUIO CITY (October 2, 2024) -- Power distributor Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) is giving rewards to consumers who are consistently paying their power bills on time.

Called “Power Hour,” the program sought to give consumers who pay their bill without default to a raffle and win items including P500 worth of goodies.

"That is BENECO’s way of showing its appreciation to our member-consumer-owners (MCO) who have been helping our electric cooperative pay our monthly power bills to our supplier on time,” said BENECO collections supervisor Ofelia Biagtan.

Launched in time for BENECO’s 51st founding anniversary celebration, the program seeks to show the electric cooperative’s appreciation to member consumer owners (MCOs) who are conscious of paying their electric bills on time.

“If they pay early, our electric cooperative will also be able to pay our power supplier on time,” Biagtan stressed.

“Power Hour” is randomly activated anytime from Mondays to Saturdays. Once activated, qualified paying consumers for that hour will get a chance to win raffle items.

“For other modes of payment like Gcash, 7-11, SM Bills Payment, BDO Bills Payment and others, they also have a chance to win P100 Gcash Load by sending the proof of payment and copy of bill to BENECO’s Facebook messenger during the cooperative’s regular radio programs every Saturday,” Biagtan said.

Five (5) winners for each radio program will be announced, at ZRadio 7 AM to 8AM, and DZWT from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

The early winners of the program, said Laarni Ilagan, BENECO information officer, went home with umbrellas, tumblers, eco bags, pens, and keychains from bank partners.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
