“Mum” Marbil visits CAR

Camp Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet (October 15, 2024)— With mouth shut shunning interview by journalists, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil set foot in the Police Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) at Camp Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet Tuesday.

Perhaps, Marbil’s only mission was presiding over the retirement of Major General Mafelino Aspero Bazar, the director of PNP Directorate of Information and Communication Technology Management (DICTM) 2:00 PM Tuesday.

Journalists were though invited but earlier on Col. Carolina Lacuata, PRO-CAR chief information officer told journalists over an advisory that Marbil will not be entertaining any questions from journalists.

“Ginawa lang tayong audience a,” veteran police reporter and President of the Baguio Correspondent and Broadcasters Club (BCBC) Thomas Picaña commented.

The same advisory though indicated that Cordillera police director Brig. General David K. Peredo could be sought for questions by journalists.

While, Bazar, a member of PMA class of 1992 “Tanglaw-Diwa”, in his retirement speech said he is exiting from the PNP “carrying the pride of serving with sense of accomplishment of rendering significant contribution to the organization.” He said this reflects his dedication to the PNP and the country.

Bazar said he was able to overcome challenges because of the unwaivering support of those who believed in him. He also said he did well with the guidance of his classmates in the "Tanglaw-Diwa Class" of 1992 of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

Bazar was the Regional Director of the PROCAR, before being assigned as the head of the Area Police Command-Southern Luzon.

On July 2024, he was appointed to head the DICTM.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
