The Province of La Union is on its toes as it prepares for the expected influx of tourists and excursionists during the holiday break in the observance of the Holy week.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David instructed the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) to be on full alert to ensure the safety of travellers and visitors in the province.
“Our personnel will be deployed to key areas to ensure safety and security of visitors expected to flock to our province to enjoy the Holy Week break not only in popular tourist destinations but also in our churches,” Gov. Ortega-David said.
PDRRMO have already prepared their rescue equipment and assets; and discussed plans for their emergency operations. They have already coordinated with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices regarding the necessary preparedness measures for the Oplan Summer Vacation (SUMVAC).
2 teams composed of 4 members will be deployed in different strategic locations such as in coastal areas to monitor the situation.
PHO will also deploy its emergency response services teams.
1 ambulance, 3 rescue pick-up, 2 rubber boats, 1 jetski and 1 service vehicle will be prepositioned to be mobilized in responding to emergency cases.
“We will be closely monitoring our beaches and our rivers as these are the primary destinations of tourists,” PDRRMO Officer-in-charge Dr. Alvin Cruz said.
Gov. Rafy reminded the tourists to take extra precautionary measures especially when swimming at the beaches to maintain a safe and meaningful vacation. She also reminded motorists to ensure their safety and be responsible drivers.
"As you visit La Union and enjoy our beach and river this summer, I urge everyone to prioritize safety. Swim in designated areas, local advisories, and be safe,” Gov. Ortega-David emphasized.
“We are targeting zero casualty during the duration of the season,” Provincial Health Officer Dr. Hermenegildo Velasco said.
Gov. Rafy also reminded the province mates to abide by the Anti-Disturbance Ordinance on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday to maintain the solemnity of the religious activities.
Among the prohibited activities include concerts, discos, karaokes, band performance shows, gigs, events, parties, and the like.
