The Province of La Union welcomes the most magical holiday celebration as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) hosted the splendid lighting of the annual Pasko sa Kapitolyo (PSK) on December 11, 2024 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union, bringing together thousands of visitors for the first night.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David led the ceremonial lighting. She expressed her cheerfulness and excitement as she committed to continuously spread love, joy and prosperity through the Christmas activity. In her message, she emphasized that despite challenges and constraints this year, the spirit of Christmas should still serve to inspire us and give us hope. “Ang magic ng Pasko ay hindi nasusukat sa bongga o enggrandeng selebrasyon kundi sa ating pagkakaisa, pagmamalasakit, at pagiging iisang pamilya dito sa La Union.

Kaya’t ngayong gabi, alalahanin natin na Ikaw at Ako ang tunay na Magic ng Pasko,” she remarked.

The provincial capitol transformed into an enchanted wonderland embellished with mystical butterflies and fairies, colorful flowers, dazzling christmas lights and lanterns and different whimsical displays, promising an ultimate magical scene and Christmas experience to spectators .This year's main attraction and likewise a picture-perfect view is the thousands of glowing bougainvillea lanterns in full bloom at the Orros Park, symbolizing the province’s provincial flower .Ushering in the festive and vibrant Christmas spirit, a giant Christmas tree at the facade of the Capitol building welcomes visitors with an enchanting vibe, reminiscent of fairy tale details in children’s books.

Other attractions to enjoy are the life-sized nativity scene, snowman, and nutcracker soldiers. Adding to the Christmas ambiance is the magnificent carriage and giant Christmas balls. PSK 2024 will also spotlight a Carnival for the kids. PGLU is expecting an increase in the spectators from 260, 719 visitors last year.

The Provincial Government invites all province mates to visit the PSK to enjoy and celebrate the yuletide season. PSK is free and will be open  from 6PM to 12MN until the end of December 2024

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
