La Union Enhances Farmer’s Productivity, Awards Over P15M Worth of Agri-Machinery

About 82 Farmers’ cooperatives, associations, learning sites and farm schools from the different municipalities in the province are expecting a boost in their livelihood as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) awarded more than P15 Million worth of agricultural machinery.

Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David led the turn-over ceremony on October 3, 2024 at the La Union Honeybee Center, Brgy. Raois, Bacnotan, La Union.

Gov. Rafy assured her continuous support to the farmers of the province saying “We are here to give you the farm machinery, tools and equipment that you deserve. This will surely help you improve your agricultural operations and give ease in your work.”

“My appeal is that you use these equipment with extra care and may you also use this to help your fellow farmers,” she added.

The provision of the said agricultural machinery is under the Farm Mechanization and Supply Support Program and funded by Republic Act 7171 or the province’s share of the tobacco excise tax.

The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) said a total of 102 units of different farm machinery, equipment and production inputs amounting to P15, 525, 000 were distributed to the beneficiaries that would increase their efficiency, productivity and ensure food security in the province.

As La Union gears towards agricultural development, the program is also an essential component in attaining the vision of the province to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.

OPAG Officer in Charge Sharon Viloria said that farm machinery is vital in achieving growth in the agriculture and economy of the province.

“This is one way of showing love and care to our farmers, that is to equip them with necessary farm machinery to advance the agriculture sector of our province,“Viloria said.

Recipients received a shredder, multi-cultivator, hand tractor, pump and engine set, portable rice mill, corn sheller, rice transplanter and a forage chopper.

Alongside with the distribution of equipment, OPAG also distributed seeds to rice farmers affected by Typhoon Egay.

Recipients from the first district are the towns of Balaoan,


Bangar, Bacnotan, City of San Fernando, Luna, San Gabriel, San Juan, Santol, and Sudipen while in the second district includes the towns of Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Bauang, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, Sto. Tomas and Rosario.
