Kalinga province has own PAGASA Surface Synoptic Station soon

BAGUIO CITY (March 18, 2025)— A Surface Synoptic (SYNOP) will soon rise in Kalinga atop Mt. Talama in Tabuk City, the provincial capital.

A Synoptic station provides real-time meteorological observations and transmits essential weather data to PAGASA’s Central Office. Data collected from the station helps PAGASA in providing weather forecasts, heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm advisories, and severe weather bulletins to the public.

The SYNOP Station project will be implemented by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Northern Luzon.

The proposal for the SYNOP station was presented to Kalinga Governor James S. Edduba as early as February 2023.

The project is part of PAGASA’s Modernization Plan and Capacity Building efforts.

Edduba welcomed the development expressing the province's support. He said they recognize the station’s crucial role in strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring the safety of Kalinga residents, especially during typhoons.

He stressed that the initiative will enhance weather observation and disaster response, ensuring timely advisories and warnings for the protection of lives and property in the province.

There are 32 stations of PAGASA in the entire country. Five are positioned in North Luzon
