Incumbent Baguio lawmaker Go challenges Mayor Magalong in mayoral race

BAGUIO CITY (October 7, 2024)— Incumbent lawmaker Marquez Go is challenging Mayor Benjamin Magalong in the mayoral race filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Monday (October 7, 2024).

Rep. Go said that it is a very tough decision to run for mayor of the city and claimed he answered the call of the people of the city.

Foisting his stellar congressional record that includes prompt delivery of social services, corruption-free infrastructure projects that have uplifted barangays and schools across the city, and local and national legislation on education, health, and senior citizens, among many, Go said Baguio citizens urged him to run recognizing the need for a Baguio City Mayor who has an effective and uncompromising public service record.

According to Go, deserves a government that puts Baguio and its people first, with zero tolerance for corruption and true good governance.

Magalong since he sat as Baguio Mayor has been heralding good governance beyond politics.

“I will prioritize Baguio and continue to walk the talk. We will do this with the same competence, speed, compassion, and integrity that have defined my years in Congress," Go said.

Go led members of his Team Maka-Baguio Tayo” in filing their respective COCs before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Baguio at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center. He was joined by his running mate for Vice Mayor, Mylen Yaranon, and his Team Maka-Baguio Tayo Councilors Leandro B. Yangot, Jr., Atty. Elmer Datuin, Engr. Michael Lee Lawana, Jacqueline Dianne “JD” Balajadia-Tabora, Dr. Esther Litilit, Atty. Edison Bilog, and Michael Humiding.

Go's group claims that "Team Maka-Baguio Tayo" is a call to every Baguio citizen to prioritize the interests and needs of Baguio citizens first, promote community-led development, and secure a better quality of life for all.

Go’s wife, Soledad “Sol” Go earlier filed her bid in the 7-cornered congressional race in the city also under the “Maka-Baguio” political vehicle.

Thus, bringing in another Baguio’s first —being the first time that a husband-wife tandem bidding for the highest posts in the city since time immemorial.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
