Greensoil: A Sustainable Waste-to-Soil Solution with Livelihood Opportunities for Filipino Households

Project Overview

Greensoil is an innovative and eco-friendly product that helps Filipino households convert various organic wastes—including kitchen scraps, animal waste, garden clippings—into rich compost, organic fertilizer, and nutrient-dense soil. In a country where food waste and organic material contribute significantly to landfill waste, Greensoil offers a practical and sustainable alternative. By turning waste into a valuable resource, households can manage their waste better, enrich their gardens, and reduce their environmental footprint.

This project not only promotes sustainable waste management but also provides livelihood opportunities for families. By producing and selling their finished compost, households can turn their waste into a source of income, contributing to both environmental sustainability and economic empowerment in communities. This initiative supports Republic Act No. 9003, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, and aligns with local efforts to improve waste management.

The project is called "Greensoil" because of its positive impact on both the environment and people. First, by converting organic waste like kitchen scraps, pet manure, and garden clippings into compost and nutrient-rich soil, it provides a sustainable solution to reducing waste while enriching the land. The process of recycling waste this way creates "Green soil" because it helps the environment, supports plant growth, and offers families a chance to earn additional income.

Second, Greensoil embodies the idea that through collective effort and environmental stewardship, positive change can be brought to the community. By turning simple organic materials into compost, we’re not only promoting sustainability but also inspiring and motivating Filipino households to be more responsible in waste management while benefiting financially from it.

The name reflects all the positive outcomes of the product—from improving soil health, boosting family livelihoods, to contributing to a cleaner environment—creating "Good Vibes" that foster a brighter, greener future.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
