Gladys Vergara Vows Grassroots Empowerment in Pinsao Proper, Wins Heartfelt Support from Elderly Residents

BAGUIO CITY — Residents of Purok 4 in Pinsao Proper Barangay gathered with keen anticipation to hear congressional candidate Gladys Vergara present her platform and vision for the future of Baguio City’s lone district.

Speaking with clarity and passion, Vergara outlined her comprehensive plans aimed at uplifting various sectors of society, with a particular emphasis on grassroots development, social welfare, and economic empowerment. The event was also attended by their Punong Barangay, Raymund Laxamana, who, along with other barangay officials, warmly welcomed Vergara and the residents who came to listen.

His presence underscored the importance of community engagement and support for initiatives that seek to improve the lives of constituents. Throughout her presentation, the audience listened attentively, responding with nods of agreement and occasional applause. Among the attendees, a group of elderly women stood out, not only for their presence but for their enthusiastic show of support.

Recognizing their vital role in the community, Vergara engaged them directly, listening to their concerns and aspirations. In a heartfelt moment, the elderly women openly committed their backing to Vergara’s candidacy, expressing hope that her leadership would bring meaningful change to their lives. Moved by their support, Vergara pledged to champion their cause by establishing a dedicated livelihood hub in the barangay.

This center, she explained, would serve as a space where senior citizens and other residents could access training, resources, and support to create sustainable, community-based enterprises. Vergara emphasized that empowering the elderly with opportunities for entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency was central to her vision of inclusive governance.

She reaffirmed her belief that true progress can only be achieved when every sector of society, especially those often overlooked, are given the tools and opportunities to thrive. The event concluded on a hopeful and energized note, with many residents expressing renewed optimism about the future under Vergara’s leadership, should she be elected as the city’s representative.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
