Gladys Vergara Champions Senior Citizens’ Welfare at Barangay Pinsao Assembly

BAGUIO CITY – Gladys Vergara, Chairperson of the Baguio Tourism Council, underscored the importance of senior citizens’ welfare during the Barangay Pinsao Pilot Project assembly, advocating for stronger support systems, including Universal Health Care and expanded Social Pension benefits for all elderly individuals.

Addressing a gathering of senior citizens, Vergara emphasized the need for free medical services to ensure that aging individuals receive adequate healthcare without the burden of financial constraints. She pointed out that many seniors struggle to afford medical treatments, making universal healthcare coverage a crucial policy to uphold their well-being.

In addition to healthcare, Vergara pushed for the expansion of the social pension program, arguing that all senior citizens should receive financial assistance in recognition of their lifelong contributions to society. She reiterated her commitment to policies that protect the elderly’s welfare, dignity, and quality of life.

“Our senior citizens have dedicated their lives to building our communities. It is our duty to ensure they receive the care, respect, and support they deserve,” she stated.

The assembly, held at barangay Pinsao Pilot Project, served as a platform for local leaders and senior citizens to discuss pressing issues affecting the elderly population. With Vergara’s continued advocacy, many hope that policies ensuring better healthcare and financial assistance for seniors will be prioritized at the local and national levels.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer

As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
