Cannabis in bricks seized in Kalinga capital sting

BAGUIO CITY (February 25, 2025) – Kalinga policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Kalinga agents seized two bricks of dried marijuana leaves valued at P240,000.00 from an alleged infamous drug trader Monday, February 24, 2025, during a sting in barangay Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga.

The 41-year-old male suspect, whose name was withheld by authorities, was immediately arrested when he sold two kilos of marijuana bricks to an undercover government agent, said PDEA-Cordillera regional director Derrick C. Carreon.

The drug trader’s motorcycle was also seized, Carreon added, because they suspect the vehicle was being used by the suspect in his illegal drug trade.

Also on Monday, Abra policemen and PDEA-Abra agents caught another 41-year old drug trader after he sold Methamphetamine Hydrochloride or shabu) worth P79,628.00 to another undercover agent in Brgy Calaba, Bangued, Abra’s capital.

Four sachets containing approximately 11.71 grams of shabu and drug paraphernalia were also seized from the suspect’s house.

Also just over the weekend, policemen and PDEA agents torched down P6.4M worth of cannabis shrubs during a two-day operation in barangay Romualdez, Rizal town in Kalinga.

Carreon claimed that 32,000 pieces of harvestable cannabis shrubs planted on a 3,200 square meter land were immediately put ablaze after documentation.

No cultivator was however caught, the PDEA official claimed.

Carreon added that the cannabis haul over the weekend added up to the recent P6M cannabis haul in remote Kibungan town in Benguet.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer

As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
