Baguio Tourism Council Engages Transport Sector for Sustainable Mobility and Tourism
BAGUIO CITY – In a bid to enhance tourism and mobility in the city, the Baguio Tourism Council (BTC) recently held a Consultation Meeting with the Transport Sector on Tourism Concerns at the University of the Cordilleras. The event, spearheaded by BTC’s Transport Sector and its head Wilson Bumayet, brought together transport representatives and government agencies to address pressing issues related to public transportation and its role in tourism.
Key topics discussed included route uniformity, staging area regulations, environmental policies, and the implementation of the Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP). These concerns are essential in ensuring a seamless and accessible experience for both residents and visitors, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a prime tourist destination.
Among the resource speakers were Engr. Jan Vincent V. Niñalga (City Engineering Office - Traffic and Transportation Management Division), who tackled staging areas, and Mr. Darryl Kim Longid (Public Order and Safety Division), who discussed transport violations. Engrs. Sofronio Pascua and Norman Nicoli Parado (CEPMO Environmental Management Division) provided insights on environmental compliance and the Clean Air Act. Additionally, Atty. Jeffrey Buena, OIC Chief of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), explained the LPTRP’s impact on transport operations.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong underscored the significance of an efficient and well-regulated transport system in sustaining tourism and driving economic growth. Meanwhile, City Tourism Officer Aloysius Mapalo emphasized the need to align transport strategies with tourism development to enhance visitor experience and local mobility.
BTC Chairperson Gladys Vergara expressed gratitude to all transport groups and government agencies who took part in the initiative, reaffirming BTC’s commitment to fostering a well-organized, sustainable, and tourism-friendly Baguio City.
This consultation marks another step toward strengthening collaboration between the transport and tourism sectors, ensuring a more efficient, environmentally responsible, and accessible transport system for the city’s residents and visitors alike.
