Almost P2B worth of illegal drugs seized by CAR police in 2024

BAGUIO CITY (January 3, 2024)— Cordillera policemen seized P1.8 billion worth of illegal drugs and caught 335 drug personalities in 2024.

The Police Regional Office Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO-CAR) attributed these to its relentless drives and series of operations last year.

Records from the Regional Operations Division of PRO-CAR show a total of 974 anti-illegal drug operations, including buy-bust operations, marijuana eradications, police responses, implementation of search warrants, service of warrants of arrest, checkpoints, and interdiction operations by PRO-CAR operatives.

Such police actions resulted in the seizure of 6,292,634 pieces of Fully Grown Marijuana Plants (FGMPs), 4,824,319.86 grams of dried marijuana, 145,558 pieces of marijuana seedlings, 647.78 ml of marijuana oil, 7.00 grams of marijuana seeds, and 1,049.73 grams of shabu. Said seized illegal drugs have an overall value of P1,850,799,191.55.

At least 335 drug personalities were arrested, with Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) recording the highest number of arrests with 114 apprehended individuals, followed by Kalinga Police Provincial Office (PPO) with 84 arrests, Benguet PPO with 76 arrests, Abra PPO with 29 arrests, Apayao PPO with 14 arrests, Mountain Province PPO with 10 arrests, and Ifugao PPO with 8 arrests. Of the 335 drug personalities arrested, 168 were identified as High Value Individuals and 167 were identified as Street Level Individuals (SLIs).

PRO-CAR also reported that three Persons Who Used Drugs (PWUDs) were encouraged to surrender voluntarily and undergo the Community-Based Recovery and Wellness Program (RWP) because of the continuous community engagement of its personnel. 112 PWUDs meanwhile were recorded to successfully complete their community-based RWP in 2024.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
