A Champion in the Ring, A Voice for Baguio’s Athletes and Youth

In this year’s race for public service, one candidate stands out not only for his achievements in the international sports arena but also for his unwavering commitment to uplift his fellow Cordillerans—Eric Kelly. Known globally as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and a respected wushu coach, Kelly brings with him not just fame, but genuine passion and a heart rooted in service.

A proud son of the Cordillera region, Eric Kelly grew up surrounded by the rich culture and resilient spirit of the highlands. Eric Kelly is a world-class stable of martial artist that has brought honor to the Philippines in the international MMA stage. Now, he is bringing that same fighting spirit into the realm of public service, hoping to become the people’s voice in the Baguio City Council.

In his campaign, Kelly has consistently highlighted a pressing concern—Baguio City’s athletes have long been overlooked and under-supported. Despite the city’s impressive sports talent pool, many promising athletes have struggled due to lack of resources, opportunities, and recognition. Kelly knows this struggle intimately. He has lived it, fought through it, and now seeks to change it.

“I know what it’s like to be an athlete with so much potential but little support,” he shared. “Our youth deserve better. They deserve a fighting chance—not just in sports, but in life.”

Beyond championing sports development, Kelly speaks with deep concern about the growing threats faced by the youth—from the dangers of illegal drugs to the mental and social challenges stemming from unchecked technological advancement.

He believes that sports is not merely a form of recreation, but a powerful tool to instill discipline, build character, and steer the youth toward productive, meaningful lives.

His vision is clear; create a city where sports becomes a pillar of youth development and where athletes are no longer sidelined but celebrated and supported.

More than just promises, Kelly has vowed to fight the broader battles that hinder progress—drug abuse, poverty, and corruption. These are fights he is ready to take head-on, armed with the same grit and determination that made him a respected figure in the fighting world.

His campaign slogan, “Ako ang boy ninyo sa Konseho,” reflects his grounded nature and dedication to be a true servant of the people—a fighter not only in the ring, but also in the halls of governance.

Eric Kelly is not just running for office. He is stepping into a new kind of arena—one where the stakes are higher, the battles tougher, but the rewards greater for the people of Baguio. And with your support, he is ready to fight for a better future.

Time to Pass the Torch: Why Political Comebacks Are Not the Answer
By Malou Laxamana Pascual May 5, 2025
As the May 12 election nears, a quiet but growing movement is making itself heard in Baguio City. It does not come from the traditional campaign stage or the usual political dynasties. It is not funded by machinery or driven by name recall. It comes from the ground, from the young, and from those who are tired of the cycle. Tired of the same names, the same faces, the same families. Tired of watching opportunity slip away as public service is reduced to a personal brand.
